Moving

About three weeks ago, we decided that we were sick of our apartment. We found a great new place, and now we're moving! By "now" I mean, right now. I'm typing this from a very empty room.

Lately, life has consisted of packing and cleaning, and knitting socks when I have the chance.

Incidentally, I put my LeDroit Park socks on ice for the time being. These socks are knit in Schachenmayr nomotta Regia - Kaffe Fassett Design Line. I cast on 60 stitches. They might be a little big -- 54 stitches might be better next time. I'm actually not crazy about the colours, but the self-striping is pretty cool. They only cost me $4.00 to make, thanks to Dressew's crazy yarn sale.

We are really excited to move into the new place. It's much larger, so I'll be able to have a permanent sewing/cutting table and a desk of my own. We'll also have storage and a dining room table for the first time in three years!

I've had lots of exciting sewing / knitting /writing ideas lately, so I'm super-stoked to get a viable workspace set up.

Goodbye, old apartment, and your strange make-up coloured walls! Goodbye sloping floor and loud neighbors! Goodbye!

Reversible bag

My mom told me that I should practice sewing with smaller projects, so I made a bag:

The plaid wool is from a skirt I bought from a vintage-store alley sale for $1.00. I bought the grey fabric from a thrift store for $2.00. I made the bag using Novita Estit's pattern and tutorial from her blog, verypurpleperson.com.

I like this pattern because it gives you the chances to mix two fabrics (while remaining really simple and easy). It would be also be a great bag to embellish with some applique or embroidery. I'm definitely going to make more of them!

This is a sock

It is breaking my wrists.

In order to make the yarn make these pretty stripes AND have the sock fit my feet, I need to knit it with near-bulletproof density. Which is making my wrists feel like the bones are slowly being forced out of place. Gah. I can't bring myself to frog it, but I'm also afraid to touch it.

Drop-stitch vest

This has been finished for a while, but our camera had some problems uploading photos lately. Then Dave reminded me that my laptop has a card reader on it, so now I'm off to the races.

This is the "Accidentally on Purpose Drop Stitch Vest" from Stitch 'n' Bitch Nation by Debbie Stoller, modified so it's knit it the round. I used three balls Rowan Pure Life Cotton DK, which I got from Dressew for $2.00/ball, making this a $7.00 project.

Now I have three balls left. What to make? A Felicity hat and an Isabeau purse?
