Sorbetto Overload

So I did throw away my green and white Sorbetto top. But I can't get this project out of my mind, because

1. The pattern was free, and fit pretty well, and I could really use some summer blouses.
2. I have another one cut out.
3. I keep seeing other people's Sorbettos online. The Sew Weekly did a series called "7 Days of Sorbetto", which showcased some interested variations (like piping). I also stumbled on A Good Wardrobe's more subtle and versatile takes on the pattern, like this nice neutral pintucked one and her black sorbetto with an inverted pleat.

So tonight, or maybe tomorrow, I'm going to wade in and finish one. My friend Leanne suggested the technique used in this bias tape finishing tutorial from angry chicken. It makes me think I've been attaching bias tape the hard way, if not the wrong way.

  1. Thanks for the shout out, Kat! I love your lino-print fabric and can't wait to see it put together The stamping is so inspiring. I always wish I had more room (and ventilation) to work with dyes. One day...

  2. Thanks for commenting! I've been reading your blog with particular interest because I'm starting a fashion program in September, and it has a strong emphasis on drafting. So it's neat to get a chance to see what students at other places are doing.

I managed to finish one Sorbetto with an inverted pleat, inspired by your black one. Actually, I wanted to ask you how much ease you used. Mine is not as blousy as I had expected!

  3. You are going to have such a great time at your program - I can't wait to hear about it on your blog!
I just measured the sorbetto and at the bust there is about 3 - 3 1/2 inches in ease. The fabric is really lightweight though and that could be influencing the blousy appearance though.
